Behold The Fowls Of The Air!

"Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not much better than they?" (Matthew 6:26)

Jesus pointed his disciples to the birds of the air for a lesson in dealing with anxiety. He taught them that there is no need to be anxious. The birds of the air do not worry because He feeds them and cares for them and our Father will certainly do the same for us. I have always enjoyed watching the flocks of geese fly south during the fall of the year. I also believe that we can learn some valuable lessons from them.

1) There is strength in numbers: Scientists who study these things tell us that by flying in a flock, the geese can fly 71% farther than if they flew alone! "Not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together, but encouraging one another." (Hebrews 10:25) God knows that we can accomplish more when we work together, pray together, sing together and fellowship together. There is strength in numbers.

2) Geese help each other: The familiar V created by the flock as they fly will always cause a path of air that gives each goose an extra lift. They will also change places to let the lead goose rest. "Bear ye one another's burdens." (Galatians 6:2) We always need to be ready to help each other. We also need to assume the responsibility of leadership from time to time.

3) The geese are always honking: The constant honking of the geese is needed for orientation and encouragement. "Wherefore comfort yourselves together and encourage one another, even as ye also do." (I Thessalonians 5:11) As we move forward to glorify God in our own lives, what kind of honking are we doing?

These are simple but yet powerful lessons that we can learn by simply watching nature around us. May we indeed, "Behold the fowls of the air!" May the Lord truly bless you and yours today!
